Iconic singer and actress Cher is set to release her two-part memoir, exploring her life story with honesty and humour, with the first volume arriving on 19 November.
Singer, actress and gay icon Cher is set to release her highly anticipated two-part autobiography, “Cher: The Memoir.” The first part is scheduled for release on 19 November by Dey Street Books, an imprint of the William Morrow Group at HarperCollins Publishers, the second part will follow in the spring of 2025.
HarperCollins highlighted the memoir’s comprehensive and personal nature, noting that it delves into the singer’s life story with the honesty and humour that Cher is known for. The first volume will explore Cher’s early life, including her experiences as a dyslexic child in a chaotic household and her marriage to fellow entertainer Sonny Bono. Known for their successful partnership, Sonny and Cher gained fame with hit songs and television shows before their eventual split in 1974, finalised the following year.
The couple co-hosted notable programmes such as The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour and The Sonny & Cher Show, becoming household names in the process. Cher shares one child, Chaz, with Bono. Additionally, she is the mother of Elijah Blue Allman, her son with her second husband, the late Gregg Allman of the southern rock group The Allman Brothers Band.
Cher, who has been a significant figure in the entertainment industry for over half a century, took to Instagram to unveil the cover of her memoir, a powerful black and white photograph of her face. This announcement follows years of anticipation, as Cher first hinted at the project back in 2017.
Cher admitted that it has been long and challenging. In conversation with Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show last November, she confessed: “I just totally chickened out. I didn’t put in some things that need to be in, and they’re not comfortable. But they need to be put in, so I have to go back and man up.”
Reflecting on her expansive career and life experiences, Cher told The Guardian in October 2023: “My life seems to be longer than any other human being ever. I feel like I should be in the Guinness Book of World Records for this. And I’m still going!”
