What, no gay celebrities in Strictly Come Dancing 2024?

The beloved dance competition returns to BBC One and BBC iPlayer in autumn 2024, celebrating its 20th anniversary with a star-studded line-up… but where are the gays?

Strictly Come Dancing is set to return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the autumn of 2024, bringing with it another dazzling series filled with glitz, glamour, and unforgettable performances. This upcoming series is poised to be particularly special as the beloved dance competition celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Produced by BBC Studios Entertainment Productions, Strictly Come Dancing has recently clinched the Best Entertainment award at the 2024 Bafta TV Awards. Tess Daly, a familiar face since the show’s inception in 2004, will be at the helm once again, joined by the ever-reliable Claudia Winkleman in the iconic ballroom.

Viewers can also look forward to a unique one-off programme, marking the 20th anniversary.

And never mind the complaints that have been made (often by contracted ITV stars, it should be noted, or maybe that’s just a conspiracy theory), what about the fact that the line-up seems not to include any celebrities from the LGBTQ+ community. Unless we’ve missed one in this line-up…

  • Comedian Chris McCausland

  • Singer, TV presenter, and author JB Gill

  • Broadcaster, presenter, and professionally trained opera singer Wynne Evans

  • Singer and actress Toyah Willcox

  • Media medic and broadcaster Dr Punam Krishan

  • Model and TV personality Tasha Ghouri

  • TV personality, author, radio, and podcast host Pete Wicks

  • Actor and singer Shayne Ward

  • Actress Sarah Hadland

  • Actor Jamie Borthwick

  • Three-time Olympic swimming champion Tom Dean MBE
