Golden Girls and Queer as Folk are to be celebrated – feted, even! – at the inaugural Pride Live! Hollywood festival taking place in Los Angeles next week. Golden Girls, which has a huge gay following, is celebrating its 40th anniversary while the US version of Russell T. Davies’ Queer As Folk is marking 25 years and hopes to reunite the stars of Scott Lowell, Hal Sparks and Michelle Clunie. As well as panel discussions with writers and creators of the shows, there will be premieres of Unicorns and A Big Hairy Hit!
In a shock move, the Romanian Orthodox Church has condemned the Bucharest Pride March because it falls on Pentecost eve. Not Pentecost eve, the eve of the descent of the holy spirit on the disciples, celebrated 50 days after Easter! How very inconsiderate! The Church has urged believers to refrain from violence. How very Christian!

Gay novelist Edmund White [pictured], who wrote classics such as the genius A Boy’s Own Story has died aged 85. White, who was a professor at Princeton, had battled with HIV and died in New York as confirmed by his agent Bill Clegg.
Harvey Milk is a key figure in gay history, the so-called ‘Mayor of Castro Street’ whose activism helped make San Francisco a gay mecca. Now, in an act of ultra pettiness, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, who let’s not forget is a jumped-up TV presenter, has decided to remove the name Harvey Milk from a US Navy ship. In Pride month – which, we learned yesterday has been discontinued. Pure class.
