Michael Pereira of Switzerland was crowned Mr Gay Europe 2025 at this year’s Pride Amsterdam, marking the culmination of a competition that brought together twelve finalists from across the continent. The event, held in a city renowned for its historic commitment to LGBTQ+ rights, was much more than a beauty contest—it was a rigorous and multifaceted journey aimed at fostering leadership, empowerment, and advocacy within the European gay community.
The finalists were hosted in style at the Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam, where they undertook a challenging four-day programme designed to prepare them as future changemakers. This included an intense academic exam focusing on LGBTQ+ knowledge, personal interviews with a professional jury, and a team sport challenge at the Olympic Stadium Amsterdam. Supplementing this were city tours, photoshoots at the luxurious Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam, and social events that allowed contestants to bond and share their diverse experiences. According to organisers, these activities aimed to sharpen not only the contestants’ public presentation but also their capacity to act as true ambassadors for the community.
Pereira’s winning campaign, Save to Grow, stood out for its courage, vision, and deep personal commitment to gay rights and visibility. With his victory, he now takes on the role of ambassador, pledging to participate in international events, media engagements, and socio-political discussions across Europe. His mission is clear: to advocate for equality, amplify unheard voices, and help forge a more inclusive future during a period when LGBTQ+ rights face rising pressures in many parts of the continent.
Bram Bierkens, Executive Producer of Mr Gay Europe 2025, reflected on the significance of this year’s competition. He emphasised that the focus was less on perfection and more on purpose—highlighting real stories, real voices, and actionable change. In line with this renewed direction, the competition launched a refreshed identity marked by bold visuals, authenticity, and a commitment to inclusivity. This aligns with Mr Gay Europe’s evolving legacy, which has, since its inception in 2005, sought to unite and empower LGBTQ+ individuals throughout Europe while addressing contemporary challenges.
