Butker’s original address, delivered on May 11 at Benedictine College in Kansas, garnered criticism for labeling LGBTQ+ Pride Month a “deadly sin” and suggesting that women’s achievements in the home are more important than their professional or academic successes.
Perry posted an edited version of Butker’s speech on her social media, transforming his words to offer a more positive and uplifting message. She captioned her post, “Fixed this for my girls, my graduates, and my gays — you can do anything, congratulations and happy pride.”
The original speech by Butker has seen mixed reactions. Following the backlash, he defended his remarks at a gala held by Regina Caeli Academy, a hybrid campus/homeschool Catholic school group.
