Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly discuss the enduring impact of their roles in the 1996 crime thriller ‘Bound’, directed by the Wachowski sisters, as they reflect on the challenges and significance of portraying LGBTQ+ characters in Hollywood.

Gina Gershon and Jennifer Tilly recently reflected on the enduring impact of their 1996 film “Bound” during an episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s podcast, It Happened In Hollywood. The crime thriller, directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, features Gershon as Corky, a lesbian ex-convict who teams up with Violet, played by Tilly, to steal mob money and frame Violet’s boyfriend Caesar (Joe Pantoliano).

Gershon revealed that her agents initially advised her against taking the role, fearing it would harm her career. Despite their warnings, she proceeded with the film, which has since become a relevant piece in LGBTQ+ cinema history. The actresses discussed the casting challenges at the time, highlighting the reluctance of some actors to accept lesbian roles.

Jennifer Tilly also praised Gershon for her supportive on-set presence. Bound continues to attract new audiences and is currently available for streaming on FuboTV and Paramount+.
