We’ve had some great lesbian pop stars in our time – kd lang, Janis Ian, Joan Armatrading – but they do tend to be on the more serious end of the spectrum. It feels like we’ve never really had a pop-dancy lesbian-with-attitude pop muppet… until now that is.

Welcome Reneé Rapp – just look at that weird accent! – ex-Broadway star (she appeared alongside Sabrina Carpenter in the Mean Girls musical) and gorgeously outspoken fun lesbian pop muppet, whose latest album, Bite Me, is a heady mix of rock and pop with flavours that veer from Alanis through Sabrina to Toni Basil.
